I created a quick video tutorial on how to back and clone as well as transferring a site using the WP Twin plugin. As many of you know, I have personally flipped several sites on Flippa.
Once you sell a site on Flippa, you are going to need to know how to move a WordPress site from one hosting account to another.
Personally I use one major plugin that helps me transfer a site from my hosting account to the buyers hosting account. Sure I could do this manually, but the truth is that I like to make do it as quickly as possible.
This is the main reason that I choose to WP Twin to back up and clone the websites that I create to sell on Flippa. Sure you can use several other backup and cloning plugins that are available, but I have personally found that using the WP Twin plugin helps me transfer a site effortlessly.
How I Backup My Personal Sites
The WP Twin plugin is just a plugin that I use for my flipping websites business.
When I need to backup my personal sites, I choose to use BackupBuddy – WP backup, restore, migration plugin because it is much safer for my sites.
I will have to tell you the difference between each plugin so you can decide for yourself which one you want to use.
While I love both plugins, I will only be discussing the WP Twin backup plugin today.
Whether you choose to use a backup plugin or do your backups manually. I truly believe that it is extremely vital that you backup your site on a regular basis.
You never know when it may go down. If you don’t have a backup, then you will only find yourself having to start all over again.
That would personally suck, I have had to start over with this site. It officially launched in May, but I did something stupid and ended up losing it.
Why WP Twin Did Not Restore My Site?
Well when I tried to restore the backup, I could not do it. At the time I was using the WP Twin plugin for my site.
I think that it did not work because when I set up my WordPress sites that I will be building into authority sites, I always change the WP tables in the config file.
I don’t think that WP Twin could restore the site because of the database and the WP table that I had set up on my site. Honestly I am not sure why the plugin could not restore my site.
I guess this goes to show that we should not rely on just one method of backing up our sites. We should have more than one backup, especially if you don’t want to lose your site and have to start all over from scratch.
All I know is that I had to start from scratch and it was not fun.
