I finally built my own download page to deliver my freebie email list builder. The whole time I am keeping people on my site!
I took the time to set up the freebie for my list building, while I had one set up, I did not have a way to keep someone on my site. I was having people download the traffic videos so they can watch them on their own computers. However, I wanted to ensure that I kept people on my site.
Plus I also wanted to provide them with some more information on other tips and even place my products at the bottom of the download page. So yesterday, I finally set up my download page for my freebie list builder. Now I am no Dreamweaver expert and if I can do it, anyone can do it, take a look at my download page for my freebie list builder.
How I Built My Download For WordPress
Yes there are themes and plugins that make creating a download page for your products that you deliver simple, such as Optimize Press. I own this theme but am not using it for this particular site, so I had to create my own download page. I used Dreamweaver to create my download. Yes you can choose to use DLGuard to deliver you products. Don’t worry if you don’t have Dreamweaver, you can use Kompozer, which is an easy to use WYSIWYG editor. Did I mention that Kompozer is free. I created a video that walks you through step by step on how to create a download page with Dreamweaver. Of course if you don’t have Dreamweaver, you can use Kompozer to do the same thing.
Why You Need A Download Page?
A download page is a page where your subscriber will be taken to after they opt into your form. They will be given the opportunity to download the product that they opted into your list for. When you have a download page, you will have the option to put other products on the page, such as affiliate links or links to other useful tools that they may need to help them grow their business.
- Steps To Create A Download Page
- Sign up with Kompozer
- Create a html document
- Write up your offer and past your links
- Save the file and give it a title in the title tags
- Give it a name that is not memorable (save that link, you will need to put it in your autoresponder)
- Add this code after <head> to tell Google not to follow: <meta name=”robots” content=”nofollow, noarchive, noindex”>
<meta name=”revisit” content=”never”>
- Upload the completed page to your FTP server.
- Make sure you are in the root of your domain
- Completed, now you have your download page
Now you have a download page that will keep people on your site and you will be able to offer them links to other products and affiliate products. Of course you can also choose to do an offer to a one time purchase product before they download your free gift. I have not implemented this yet as I am still learning how to do this.
The Importance Of Keeping People On Your Site
Don’t overlook the importance of creating a download page, whether you choose to build one yourself or use a plugin or a theme. When you are building a business, you want to be able to offer people as much value as possible. Just because you have a download page, does not mean that you should throw up a bunch of affiliate links. Place some links to some free products as well.
This will help people build trust with you. If they feel like you are always trying to sell them, chances are they will download the free gift and then unsubscribe. Plus with the videos on my download page, most people will bookmark that site to come back to watch the videos later. This means that my links will always be in front of them while they are watching the videos.
If they downloaded the videos and placed them on their hard drive, my blog and links would not be accessible to them. Even if they don’t check out my links right then and there, what is to say that they won’t come back to that page a week later and then check out one of the links?
I know that I have personally done that. I have downloaded a product and then a week later went back to that product and purchased something that I needed at that point. They may not need it when they download your product, but keeping your links in front of them can be a way to get them back to your blog again. Who know’s maybe they will purchase one of the products you recommended weeks from today.
