With the tax free weekend coming up this weekend, I thought that I would try to make some cash on Flippa by selling sites.
I am planning on going out and purchasing a printer and a couple of other things that I need.
And I am hoping to make enough money from Flippa to cover my shopping expenses this weekend.
I usually take the money that I make from Flippa and use it to outsource the article writing for my PLR store. I like to pay someone to write the articles for me, as I don’t have enough time to do everything that I need to do.
I have learned that outsourcing my article writing, let’s me focus on other important things in my business.
Selling Four Sites This Week
Well at least I hope that they sell. I have set up four auctions and the money that I make from those auctions will be used to hopefully purchase a new printer that I need and some other things that I will be picking up this weekend.
I just listed my sites and within 24 hours I had someone send me a private message stating that they would like to purchase one of them.
I turned down the offer as it has not even been 24 hours since I listed it and I do believe that I can get more for it.
Here is the message that they sent me:
Thanks for the response Susan.
Ok based on this, I’d like to make a Buy-it-Now offer of $91. Let me know if this is acceptable and reduce the BIN, and I will process payment via PayPal now.
Of course if the auction ends and I end up making less, then I will regret not selling the site to the person who wanted it.
That is the thing with selling sites on Flippa, you never know what you will get for them.
I guess you can kind of say it is like gambling. I don’t gamble, because I hate losing.
With Flippa I feel like I am gambling because I turned down this persons offer thinking that I will do better on the last day of the auction.
I am sure that people who go to Las Vegas and gamble feel a lot more jittery than I do. After all if my site does not sell, then I don’t lose a lot. Plus I will get to re-list my site for half the price.
I have been to Vegas once, truth be told I just had a lay over in the airport. I did play on the penny machines but I am not sure if that is considered gambling?
What I Have Noticed When Selling Sites
The things that I have noticed when flipping websites is that most of the bids do not start coming in until the last several hours of the auction. Of course it also depends on the domain that you choose for the site.
Last week I had an auction and there was only 16 minutes left until it ended. I thought that it was going to go unsold. However, someone made a bid on it and it ended up selling for $49.
How I Choose The Domains
Before I go shopping for a domain, I try to search the “just sold” section in Flippa. This will help give me an idea of the types of sites that people are buying. I always choose the .com’s. I have sold a couple of .org’s and .net’s, but what I have realized is that the buyers tend to prefer if the domain is a .com.
I don’t do this research manually as it can be frustrating to do. It can also take up a lot of time. I use a piece of software that I have purchased called Flippin Stats. I will have to dedicate a whole post to this software, as I absolutely love it.
It has helped me improve the way that I am selling sites.
I have realized that people are not only interested in purchasing the site, but they want a good domain. (I haven’t quite figured out what a good domain is) I wish I did know because I would make sure that I was always choosing the best domains for the websites I flip.
I am learning how to choose better domains. But it seems like a lot of the good domains are taken. Anyway, I just wanted to share about the four auctions that I have listed on Flippa this week. Hopefully they will sell and I can go shopping this weekend.
