Welcome to my new homepage, I built it with WP Beaver Builder (I will create a video on how to use WP Beaver builder later in another post).
I want to ask you something.
What does your homepage say about you?
Do you offer services or products?
If so, would someone who lands on your website from the search engines understand what your site is about?
Before I created my new homepage, my WordPress site was all over the place. In fact, most new people who landed on my site probably got confused and lost.
I will be the first to admit that I did not organize my blog correctly from the start. It was a hot mess, hopefully my new home page will help me out.
While my bounce rate isn’t that bad, I felt like creating a new home page might improve the bounce rate.
After all, who does not want to improve their traffic stats?
I want people to stay on my website longer and visit several pages. The last thing that I want is people to come to my site and then quickly leave.
That does not help me out…nor does it help my new visitor.
If you are anything like me, you spend hours creating content and videos on your website.
What good is all that hard work if people are not sticking around to see your work?
So I decided that this weekend I was going to sit down and create a new home page.
Now I do not have a lot of time to devote to the re-design of my new home page. So I found this awesome page builder plugin.
It took a little bit of time to get used to…but once I did, I was able to create my new home page in less than an hour.
Why I Created A New Home Page
As I mentioned above, my website was extremely disorganized and people could easily get confused on my website.
I am sure that people really had no clue of the services I offer or what why I actually had a website.
My website is geared towards product creation and I now offer WordPress services.
When people landed on my website they landed on my latest blog posts. I did not have my site setup to show people what I have to offer them.
So now when people land on my new homepage, they see what I offer as well as my newest blog posts.
Look at Your Home Page from Your Visitors Point of View
No one wants to be told that their website needs a re-design. Chances are you have spent countless hours working on setting up your WordPress site.
Now someone you do not even know is telling you that you may want to reconsider what your home page is saying about you.
But ask yourself, if I landed on your website, would I know what your website is about?
Would I know what services or products you offer?
If so then you are doing a fantastic job and I wouldn’t recommend changing anything.
But if you are NOT sure that someone new would know what you offer or why you have a website, then you may want to consider taking the day to redesign your website.
What Should I Put On The Home Page?
First of all, your homepage should tell your visitors what your site is about. If you have people landing on your latest blog posts…then they might be able to know what your site is about.
But if you are like most people who setup a blog.
Your blog posts may not be tightly based around a niche. If you posted a blog post about making money online one day and then the next day you posted a post about taking a day off to spend with your family.
Would your visitor know what your blog is about?
But ask yourself this…would they stick around to find out more about your blog?
Be honest with yourself. I know that most of us do not want to face the truth. After all, it is easier to tell ourselves that our blog is just fine the way it is.
When a new person lands on your blog…you have 3 seconds to make a first impression.
If people cannot figure out what your blog is about…they will click away and move on to your competitor’s website.
Heck some people won’t even stay on a website for 3 minutes.
You may offer better services and products than your competitors but your competitor’s will win if people cannot figure out what your site is about.
So guess what, you lost that lead because you did not make a good first impression.
Look at It This Way
You go on vacation to a new city that you are unfamiliar with. You get dropped off in the middle of the city.
There are no signs or anyone around to ask directions to help you get around from Point A to Point B. Even worse, you see rioters starting to move towards you but you feel stuck because you do not know how to get your family to safety.
How would you feel?
Chances are you would feel lost and confused and the first chance you got, you would get out of that situation as quick as possible. You would never go back because every time you entered that city, it would remind you of how you felt.
Now imagine the same situation…in the same city but this time there are all kinds of signs and paths that lead you to your destination without any issues.
You are even given a GPS system that guides you safely from Point A to Point B.
You now feel comfortable and enjoy the sightseeing because you are not lost and confused.
You would probably bookmark that website because you found it enjoyable and easy to read.
This is exactly how someone feels when they land on your website.
If you want them to stay and feel comfortable, it all starts with the home page.
Check out this post about 12 critical elements every home page should have.
I have also found a couple of other great posts that will help you create your new home page.
All these articles will help you get a better understanding of how to build your homepage.
Look I know it’s your blog and you decided to become an entrepreneur because you want to call the shots.
Well at least that’s why I become an entrepreneur.
But like you, I have never run my own business. Nope I was an employee and had been one my entire life. I guess you can say that I had the employee mentality we all get from working the 9-5.
So I had to learn how to run a business. In fact, I am still learning as I go along.
At the end of the day, you have the final shot of what to put on your home page. After all, it is your blog and you can design it anyway you want.
It does not bother me if you decide not to redesign your home page. I just know that it was time for me to create a new home page.
How I Came Up With the Re-Design of My New Home Page
My main focus for my new home page was to let my visitors know that I now offer WordPress installation services.
I also have created a slew of Internet Marketing products that I want people to know about.
Yes I am still an Internet Marketer and my goal is to get people to buy my products and services and that is what I am hoping my new home page re-design accomplishes.
After all, a girl has to eat…and pay her bills.
So I focused on putting that on my new home page.
But before people get to those sections of my home page, I wanted them to sign up for my email list.
At first I thought I wasn’t going to give anything away for free…and if people want to sign up for my email list they could do so.
We all know that most people sign up for the freebie and then run away. They treat the free product like stealing candy from a baby.
That’s not the type of follower I want.
I want to attract people who will do anything to grow their online business, not freebie seekers who want to run a free business.
But I figured it won’t take long to create a freebie eBook guide so I said what the heck.
My goal of my website is to build my email list.
When people sign up for my email list, I will then promote my products and services.
Nope I won’t bombard them with a bunch of useless affiliate links.
I used to do that at the beginning.
But now I only promote products that I personally use or have used and have found useful.
Yes someone gets on your email list…you want them to buy something.
Don’t lie, you know that you do not want a bunch of freebie seekers sitting in your email responder account.
You have bills that need to be paid right.
Well unless your good looks will pay your electric bill this month…then you need to get buyers on your email list.
So there we have it…why I rebuilt my home page.
I needed to let people know about my products and services…plus I want to build my email list.
Now my blog does everything I want it to and I love my new home page.
So enough about my new home page.
Have you ever re-designed your home page?
If not are you reconsidering it later? If I landed on your blog would I know what types of services or products you offer?
Let me know about my new home page and what you think about it. I love it and since I am my own boss, I will be keeping it the way it is.
