One of the biggest issues that people have when they start building an email list is the dreaded question, “How often should I email my list?”
Most people are scared…..so what do they do? Nothing they don’t email their list. They would rather NOT email their list than to see the dreaded unsubscribe.
I admit that I suffered from this dilemma when I first started building my email list. I still think that subconsciously that prevented me from building my own list. I am quite positive that many of you have suffered from this dilemma as well.
So I am going to share something with you. It may not be as clean-cut as you would like it to be. I wish there was a one-answer-fits all. Wouldn’t that be great? If something works great for me, I could spill the beans and you would get the same results.
Unfortunately, that isn’t the way that life works. Nope regardless of the type of results I get online yours will be different. That is the reason that people are constantly preaching test everything.
So How Often Should You Email Your List?
Whenever you want….or at least once per day. Look I know that many of you reading this are thinking wow this girl is crazy. I’m not going to email my list everyday. Great then you don’t have to.
But let me ask you this. Do you think that those people are on other people’s lists?
Do you think that they get other marketer’s emails?
If you answered “yes” to both of those questions then you’re right. Take a look at your inbox. How many different marketer’s emails are you on?
I am willing to be that you are on at least 2 different marketer’s emails.
These people are emailing your list when you’re not. Who do you think that a person is going to buy from…someone who emails them on a daily basis and provides them useful information that helps them grow their business.
Or someone who emails them once a week. Chances are they will most likely forget who you are…after all they are being emailed on a daily basis from other marketers who are providing them with solutions to their problems.
Should I Care If Someone Unsubscribes?
One of the worst things is someone who unsubscribes, after all it’s telling us that we’re doing something wrong. That’s how most people feel, I know because I used to have those same feelings when someone unsubscribed from my list.
I thought that I had hurt someone’s feelings and I didn’t know what to do to keep the rest of my list happy. So you know what I did, I stopped emailing my list because I didn’t want to have more unsubscribes.
Well you know what that did for my bottom dollar? Nothing.
Remember, those people signed up for your email list. That means that they want to hear from you. I know that you don’t want to spam them and send them a lot of garbage just in hopes of them buying something.
They are human beings just like you and I, but that doesn’t mean that you have to change your email marketing plan. Or worse yet, not even start one because you’re afraid that if you send an email people will push the unsubscribe button before they even open your email.
It’s Your Business
Someone once told me that you’re building a business and you get to choose how you run it. Now think of it this way. You’re paying a monthly bill for that auto-responder…the people who are on your list are on your dime.
You have bills to pay each and every month. Do you think that NOT emailing your list is going to make you profitable? Nope those monthly bills are still going to come regardless of whether you’re making any money or not.
Most People Are Looking For Freebies
The truth is that most people in this business are always on the lookout of what can I get for free. Most people are NOT ever going to buy from you. So even if they unsubscribe from your list, don’t take it personally.
Chances are they weren’t interested in what you have to say or teach. Even if they stayed on your list, they may not have ever bought another product from you. They probably got on your list because you gave away a freebie product.
So my takeaway from all of this is, don’t take things personally. You’re going to get unsubscribes no matter how often you email or don’t email your list.
