Now I know that getting 1-2 comments of spam is pretty normal.
However, I am a little disappointed in the results that I’ve been getting since I’ve deleted the Askimet plugin, and it’s only been 2 weeks.
When I was using the Askimet plugin I rarely got any spammy comments. Now it seems like every morning I wake up there are like 5-7 spammy comments.
It’s a little annoying and frustrating that people don’t have anything better to do than to sit behind their computer and spam blogs with unrelated comments.
I realize that I don’t have a blog commenting policy on my site…maybe I should take the time to set one up.
I am trying not to be too strict with my commenting policy and want to make it as easy as possible for someone to comment on my site.
But these comments are ridiculous.
As you can see, none of the comments add any value to my site.
The first comment:
It is time to make some plans for the future and it’s time to be happy..
The second comment talks about:
how his sister stole his Apple iPad and tested it to see if it could survive a 30 foot drop…
Not sure how any of these people thought that I would approve their comments?
Yes I do take the time to read all the comments before I approve them on my site.
Now if you have been commenting on a regular basis on my site, then I know that you’re not a spammer and your comments are automatically approved.
Let me also take the time to say that I truly appreciate everyone who has left valuable comments on my blog. Without you my blog would look like the Sahara Desert…extremely bare and unfriendly.
Why I Removed the Askimet Plugin?
I decided to remove the plugin because I had read that it wasn’t necessary to use both G.A.S.P. and the Askimet plugin together.
I had also read somewhere ( I read so many blogs) that Askimet is popular for marking comments as spam, even if they are not spam.
I had received a couple emails from people who said that their comment went spam even when they weren’t spam.
So I thought that I would remove it and see what happens.
I have watched the videos in the CommentLuv premium plugin membership site. I’ve set up the settings exactly like the videos say to do.
Yet I am still getting about 5-7 spam comments per day. I am not sure if this is normal or not?
Now I’m not knocking the CommentLuv and the G.A.S.P plugin as I absolutely love them. I attribute the CommentLuv plugin as a huge part of why people actually take the time to comment on my site.
Many people realize that I am using the plugin and understand that they will get a link back to their site. Without the plugin, I’m not sure that my blog would be as interactive as it is.
How You Can Help Me
Anyone who is using the G.A.S.P plugin if you can let me know if I am overreacting to the amount of spam comments I am getting.
I know that my blog is not getting 20-30 spam comments per day. I am just a little concerned that eventually the number of spam comments I’m getting will continue to grow.
The last thing that I want to do, is spend a lot of time cleaning up and deleting all these spam comments.
Anyone who is having the same issue or has found a way to solve the issue…I would greatly appreciate your assistance.
Time To Share
I would like to know how many spam comments does your blog get, as well as what you do to protect your blog from this issue. Are you using both the Askimet and the G.A.S.P. plugin?
Anything you can share to help me solve this issue would be greatly appreciated. I don’t have the time to sit here and delete all these spam comments on a daily basis.
