Back in the day when it was easier to rank a website on Google, I had over 20 niche sites that we doing really well. One of the sites was ranking number one on Google for 3 very popular terms.
It was my number one niche site and that site alone was bringing me well over $1300.00 per month by itself. I miss those days when it was so easy to get a quick niche site up and running.
Well I’ve been considering doing it again. This time around though, I plan on doing it differently.
Niche Site vs Authority Site
I know most people who spent time building micro niche sites say that it doesn’t work. I know from experience, because once Google made their changes to their algorithms, my site sunk like the Titanic.
It didn’t take long for my $1300.00 per month site to dwindle down to $100 per month. Eventually, the income just dried up and I didn’t even waste my time trying to get my rankings back.
Not to mention that the affiliate program that the site was in went away. Sure I could’ve put Adsense on it and tried to revive it. But I figured that I would get into creating my own products in the IM niche.
Well now I have a few products out and I continue to make some money from them. I think that I am ready to get back into creating a niche site to see if I can rank it again and get it making $500 plus per month.
Building My Niche Site Into A Mini Authority Site
Instead of focusing on building a ton of micro niche sites, I am going to be building a mini niche site. I spent the morning playing around with Market Samurai and coming up with some niches.
However, I really didn’t find anything that I felt like I would want to write about. My goal for my new niche site is to create a site that has at least 50-100 posts.
So I spent most of the morning trying to find some ideas that I thought that I would find at least a little bit interesting. For my niche site, I am staying clear of the “make money online” niche.
What I did this morning was sit down and focus on some common fears, problems and passions.
My two biggest passions are:
Both of those niches are extremely competitive so I don’t really see myself entering those niches. So I sat down and decided to open up the Freemind software so I could do some brainstorming. I figured that I would create a mindmap of all the different ideas that I came up with tomorrow I could spend time playing with Market Samurai and finding the right niche.
As you can see, I came up with quite a few brainstorming ideas.
How To Start A Niche Site
You may have heard people say that you should start a niche site about a topic that you are passionate about. I have personally found that it isn’t always true.
My last successful niche site was related to junk cars. I knew nothing about junk cars, but as soon as I noticed that the site had potential and I started seeing the money come in. I took the time to do research and learn about junk cars. I even got to the point where I was outsourcing content for the site.
If you are going to be doing a lot of the writing yourself, then you definitely should know a little bit about the niche you’re entering. But if you happen to find a niche that is lucrative and there is hardly any competition, I say jump. After all, you can do research online and find out everything you need to know about the niche to make it a successful niche site.
Of course it doesn’t hurt to have some interest in the niche. It will make writing content for your new niche site a lot easier. Now I am no niche site expert and I can’t guarantee that the niche site that I setup will actually make any money. The one thing about me is that I am not scared to try new things.
If you’re going to make in the internet marketing industry, you always have to be willing to test and try new things. If you’re always scared to fail then you will never try new ventures or discover a profitable niche.
So tomorrow I am off from school and I figure I will sit down with Market Samurai and do some keyword research. I will create a video that walks through the process of how I do my keyword research.
Unfortunately, I won’t be revealing the niche that I go into. First, I will see if I can get it profitable and then I will reveal it once I figure out if I chose the right niche or not.
So stay tuned to watch me set up my first niche site, in over two years.
Yes I currently have a couple of other niche sites setup that were not affected by the Google updates. However, those sites don’t bring in anywhere near $1300 per month. If you have been wanting to learn how to create niche sites, then you’ve definitely come to the right place. I will be sharing my experience on how I setup a brand new niche site from scratch…so tomorrow I will be starting with the keyword research to uncover a goldmine in hopes of finding something that I can rank quickly.
