I had someone email me and ask me what plugins I am using on IMWithSusanVelez.com, so I thought that I would share the 13 plugins that I am using on this blog. Some of the plugins that I am using are free and others are premium plugins. (The premium plugins will require a fee to purchase them.) Of course I provide you the links to both the free and the premium plugins.
Free Plugins For Your Blog
Askimet Plugin: Anyone who is considering setting up a blog definitely needs this plugin. The plugin will help filter all those unnecessary spam comments that you blog will eventually receive as you grow in popularity. I highly recommend that you install it on your plugin right from the get go.
When you visit the site to register for the plugin it will ask you to pay a fee to use the plugin. To use the plugin for free, you will want to sign up for your askimet key and when it asks you how much you would like to pay, drag the cursor till you see the smiley face turn to a frown. This will enable you to get your askimet key for free.
All In One SEO Pack: This plugin will help you optimize your blog to help you get the most from the keywords you are trying to rank for. While I don’t put all my emphasis in SEO, I do attempt to optimize my blog.
Ask Apache Password Protect: This plugin will help you protect your blog from hackers. While you can’t deter hackers 100%, every step that you take will help you protect your blog from hacks.
Better Delete Revision: This plugin helps clean up your database by removing redundant revisions that you make on your posts.
Flare: This plugin can help people share your posts socially. We all know that Google now looks at social shares and interactions. (I don’t claim to know that much about social networks, I am still learning, but it doesn’t hurt your site to add a social share button.
Google XML Sitemaps: This plugin will generates a sitemap for your site, which in turn will help the search engines index your blog.
Login Lockdown: This plugin will lock out people who do not have the right to log into your site. You can set it up to lockout people after they attempt to log in to your blog after a certain amount of attempts. This plugin works, I have another site that I always get logged out emails, from someone who has been trying to log into my site.
Simple Local Avatars: I love this plugin because it allows you to add a picture of yourself to your profile page. Yes, you should still register with Gravatar to include your picture with your email. But this plugin makes it easy to add your picture. All you have to do is install the plugin and then visit your profile page, upload a picture that you want show up as the author and that is it.
Premium Plugins Used On My Blog
Backup Buddy: I absolutely love this plugin, it prevents me from worrying about ever losing my content or blog. As you know I lost my blog once when I first started it because I did not have a back up of it. Backup Buddy allows me to easily and automatically backup my site so I can rest assured that I will always have a backup of my site.
You have the option of creating database backups or full backups. You can schedule daily, weekly or even monthly backups. I use the daily backups, this ensures that I always have an up-to-date backup of my site. You can schedule the backups on a schedule that suits you. If you are updating your blog on a daily basis, then I highly suggest that you schedule the daily backups.
CommentLuv Premium: There is a free Comment Luv plugin you can use. However, I opted to go with the premium plugin because of all the features that it provides. Starting a new blog takes a lot of work, especially when you are trying to build a following of readers. This plugin encourages people to comment on your blog because of the love that they receive from your site using the CommentLuv Premium plugin. You can find out more about the features of this plugin by visiting the official Comment Luv Premium site.
Covert Messenger Pro: I love this plugin and you can see it on my site at the bottom. It is a little box that slides onto your site, it allows you to promote anything that you want and is proven to get some great click through rates. You can send your visitors anywhere you want to.
Dashboard Luvvers Widget Premium: This is a plugin that you get when you purchase the CommentLuv Premium. It makes it easy to see if you have any comments that need to be replied to right from your WordPress dashboard.
Ultimate TinyMC Pro: This plugin is an easy drag and drop plugin that allows you to dress up your site even more. You can improve the fonts on your site and add smiley faces at the bottom of your posts like I do on my site. There is so much that you can do with this plugin, there used to be a free plugin, you may want to try searching the plugin directory and see if you can find the free version. If you want to find out everything this plugin does, then visit the official Ultimate TinyMC Pro site.
Hybrid Connect Plugin– Easily and quickly set up some awesome looking email optin boxes on your site. This plugin makes it easy to set up optin boxes under posts, on the sidebar, as a squeeze page or even a popup box. It offers you so many different options, that is the reason that I highly recommend it.
Don’t worry about not knowing how to add an optin box, it comes many useful tutorials you will have access to after you decide to purchase it. You can see one of my optin boxes that I created with this site by clicking here.
Of course everyone is different and with so many different plugins in the marketplace, you can choose which ones will fit your needs. These are the same exact plugins that I am using on my site.
